Second Hand Goods Dealer Policy

Policy Scope

The Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 1996 regulates the trade of second-hand goods in South Australia. The Act includes the following requirements for second-hand dealers:

Purchasing Second Hand Goods

Valley Technology are required to ask for a copy of the seller’s photo identification and person details to be recorded in case the Second Hand Goods are seized by Police in the event goods are stolen. We are required to store this information on a secure database with the products information.

Identification

Dealers must verify the identity of customers who sell them prescribed goods. This can be done with a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s licence or passport, or with two or more forms of identification that include the customer’s name, address, and signature.

Record keeping

Second Hand Dealers must keep records for each prescribed good they buy or receive, including the date of acquisition, the customer’s name and address, and a description of the goods.

Retention of goods

Dealers must keep goods for at least 10 days after acquiring them. They can dispose of the goods after three days if they have recorded the purchaser’s full details.

Refunds

Consumers are advised Second Hand Goods will be sold as is with no warranty. While we aim to test all used items sometimes this is not possible. A description of the item with as much detailed information will be supplied on the advertisement, but we cannot offer a refund on these products unless damaged in transport with the courier company. Buyers are covered up to $100 with included insurance but if you would like to add extra cover this will incur an additional cost. Valley Technology aim to ensure quality packaging of the items but once items have been handed to the delivery company and tracking is provided to the seller it becomes the responsibility of the buyer.

Consumer guarantees

Consumer guarantees apply to second-hand goods even if a written warranty is not provided. These guarantees include the goods being of acceptable quality, fit for purpose, and free from any undisclosed security, charge, or encumbrance. Prior to the sale of the product all practical measures will be made to ensure precise testing and description is offered to the customer.

Product safety

When selling second-hand goods, you can take precautions such as:

    • Checking that all equipment is complete, with all necessary safeguards fitted, and free from obvious defects. We will take as many photos as possible of the item and the customer is encouraged to ask questions prior to purchasing.
    • Ensuring that electrical goods have a CE mark. And serial number.

If you have any questions or concerns with buying a used item from Valley Technology, please contact us prior to purchasing.
